Music Monday – Broken Inside

This song – ‘Broken Inside’ by Broken Iris – showed up on my Spotify ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist this week and the moment I heard it I knew it had to be the #MusicMonday. Not just because I’ve had a hellacious two weeks, and have been beyond exhausted, but because from the lyrics, to the sound of this man’s voice, to the rhythm/beat I fucking love it. I love this song so hard and I really hope you take a minute to read the lyrics and listen to this because it is SO GOOD.

Lyrics

Until the end of me,
you’ll be the death of me.
I dare you to cross the line again,
cause deep down inside
there’s something that waits to be…

Broken inside,
feeling alive,
forced to defy
who casts me aside.
I’m waiting to be…
broken inside,
losing my mind,
I’m gasping for life,
crashing through tides,
that drive me to find
the darkness behind.
We’ll never run dry
but all still stand.

Until the end of me, (I swear)
you’ll be the death of me. (I dare)
I dare you to cross the line again,
cause deep down inside
there’s something that waits to be…
Cross the line again,
because deep down inside,
there’s something that waits to be broken.

The thinning line between
you and my sanity,
is quickly fading.
Takes just a breeze to cause a storm.
The thinning line between
you and my sanity,
is quickly fading.
Takes just a breeze to cause a storm.
Takes just a breath to cause a scream.
It takes me to cause a tragedy.

Until the end of me, (I swear)
you’ll be the death of me. (I dare)
I dare you to cross the line again,
cause deep down inside
there’s something that waits to be…
Cross the line again,
because deep down inside,
there’s something that begs to be broken inside.

Music Monday – Two Shots

It’s #MusicMonday and I’ve been doing dayjob work non-stop since last week (literally, did it all weekend as well and flew to Atlanta yesterday for more work stuff) and so I’ve barely come up for air. The only good news is that whether I’m doing day job work or authory work, I’m always listening to music, and I listened to ‘Two Shots’ by Cross My Heart Hope To Die (yes, that is the band name) and remembered just how much I like this song. The whole of it is just fantastic. Feisty, fun lyrics that remind me of Camille from my Dangerous Games series, a great beat, fun rhythms, and overall just a blast to listen to. I hope all of you enjoy it too, and I promise I’ll be around more later this week. <3 <3

Favorite Lyrics

Yeah,
See me, I be all I want to be.
You, fuck you, take it all from me.
Abuse, you do, do it all to me,
do it all to me, give it to me.
You see, I’m free
you ain’t running me.
You lose, no matter what you do to me.
Yeah, you used me up,
do it all to me,
do it all to me,
give it to me.

I hope you feel good,
when you’re breaking me down,
when you’re running me baby,
running me right down to the ground.
Give me your best shot,
give me all you can.
I want it all,
yeah, you the fucking man.

I got two shots, and I’m knocking at your door,
got a bullet with your name to put your brain upon the floor.
Two shots, and I’m knocking at your door.
You can run away and hide, but I will find out where you are.

A piece of me, stuck inside of you,
I leave, you bleed, ain’t nothing left to do.
I need to feel, you get it all from me,
I’m gonna give it all to you,
cause you gave it all to me.
I’ll be ok, once you’ve gone away.
Cause I hate you so much I cant fucking see.
Yeah you shoved me down,
burned me out,
you ran your mouth,
well I’m laughin’ now.

Cause I hope you feel good,
when you’re breaking me down.
when you’re running me baby,
running me right down to the ground.
give me your best shot,
give me all you can.
I want it all.
Yeah, you the fucking man.
I got two shots, and I’m knocking at your door,
got a bullet with your name to put your brain upon the floor.
Two shots, and I’m knocking at your door.
You can run away and hide, but I will find out where you are.

Music Monday – No One’s Here to Sleep

For #MusicMonday today I have to share ‘No One’s Here to Sleep’ by Naughty Boy (and Bastille and others) and it was something I enjoyed when I first heard it, because it’s got this almost wolf howl from the singers throughout the whole song, and then the theme of the song just makes me fall in love with it. Especially the more eerie lines like “As I rise up through each floor, / shit gets dark and you lose it all. / I can hear it coming, / I can hear the drumming.” SO ominous, and when you pair those lines with the repeated line of “Oh, I can feel them coming for me” with the wolf howls, it just FEELS so cool. Seriously, a well done song. Read the lyrics, scroll down and hit play, and then enjoy the beat, howl at the moon and climb the walls and get shit done, lovelies! <3

Favorite Lyrics

Every carpet, every floor,
everywhere I look, I fall.
Climbing up the walls,
I’m climbing up the walls.
What goes on behind these doors?
I’ll keep mine and you’ll keep yours.
We all have our secrets,
We all have our secrets.

Behind every door,
is a fall, a fall, and
no one’s here to sleep.

You were always faster than me,
I’ll never catch up with you, with you,
oh, I can feel them coming for me.
And you were always faster than me,
I’ll never catch up with you, with you,
oh, I can feel them coming for me.

Here’s the pride before the fall.
Oh, your eyes, they show it all.
I can see it coming,
I can see it coming.
As I rise up through each floor,
shit gets dark and you lose it all.
I can hear it coming,
I can hear the drumming.

Behind every door,
is a fall, a fall, and
no one’s here to sleep.

Music Monday – I’ll Be Good

Okay, lovelies, today’s #MusicMonday is really good, and I have several reasons why. ‘I’ll Be Good’ by Jaymes Young was the first song I’d ever heard by him and I loved it from the first few lines. It was a stop-you-in-motion song and I fell in love with it instantly… and then I knew I wanted it to inspire a character. The only problem is that it’s a complicated song, with layers, and definitely meant for a dark anti-hero, which meant I needed to find the right voice for it. So, what does that mean? It has been on my writing playlist for YEARS, and the very exciting wonderful news is ……….. I finally have the character. One of my secret projects just finished (and was turned in) and it’s dark, and twisty, and wrong, and very very short, but I LOVE IT. I love it so hard, and I’ll be writing the full-length story for it in 2018. This character is so powerful that it’s also the first time I’ve ever written in first person POV. I can’t wait until I can tell you about this story, and share a snippet, but until then I just want you to read through these lyrics, listen to this voice, and imagine the damaged, fucked up anti-hero that it inspired. (The video is weird, so maybe just listen and read the lyrics, but I fucking love this song)

After the wonderful time with all of the authors from Blushing Books last week in Atlanta, I still can’t believe I’m lucky enough to write these books, and have readers, and friends in this crazy book world. You’re all wonderful, lovelies, and I’m so grateful to have you all in my life. Enjoy. <3

Favorite Lyrics

I thought I saw the devil,
this morning,
looking in the mirror, drop of rum on my tongue,
With the warning,
to help me see myself clearer.
I never meant to start a fire,
I never meant to make you bleed…
I’ll be a better man today.

I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
and I’ll love the world like I should.
Yeah, I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
for all of the times
that I never could.

My past has tasted bitter for years now,
so I wield an iron fist.
Grace is just weakness,
or so I’ve been told.
I’ve been cold, I’ve been merciless.
But the blood on my hands scares me to death,
maybe I’m waking up today.

I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
and I’ll love the world like I should.
I’ll be good, I’ll be good.
I’ll be good, I’ll be good.

For all of the light that I shut out,
for all of the innocent things that I doubt,
for all of the bruises I’ve caused, and the tears,
for all of the things that I’ve done all these years,
and all…
Yeah, for all of the sparks that I stomped out,
for all of the perfect things that I doubt.

I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
and I’ll love the world like I should.
Yeah, I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
for all of the times
I never could. Oh, oh-oh,
oh, oh, oh, oh-oh.
For all of the times I never could.
All of the times I never could.

Music Monday – The Great Shipwreck of Life

#MusicMonday is late, but the song also happens to be ‘The Great Shipwreck of Life’ by IAMX which is hilariously appropriate, but it’s because I was partying it up in Atlanta with the lovely ladies from Blushing Books and having the loveliest of times with so many people. IAMX has been on #MusicMonday before and ‘The Great Shipwreck of Life’ is a song that always catches my attention. It’s such a good one, and definitely fun to listen to because it’s got a great beat / rhythm that is almost upbeat except that the lyrics are kind of dark and strange. I love it. Enjoy!

Favorite Lyrics

We can make you understand…
We can make you understand…

Play with me.
You can make the love, I’ll make the money.
Stay with me.
Shut out the world, live underneath the city.

Release cold gender bombs
On colonial closet middle England

Stay with me,
I’ll be Peter Pan and you just be pretty.

To the brave and the petrified,
we all fall down.
To the slave and the civilized,
we all fall down.
To the lovers we left behind,
the bad days, the good nights,
in the great shipwreck of life,
we all fall down.

We light up the bars of the world
with the decadent essence of innocence
So free but sharp
We can be the satellite guiding through the dark.

#MusicMonday – Blindfold

I’m sure just by the title of this song, you know why it’s on #MusicMonday today. Ha! ‘Blindfold’ by Sleeping Wolf is hot and kinky and dark and I love it. It’s a must have on my writing playlist and as you listen (or watch their lyric video below) I think you’ll fall in love with it too. Personally, I’m still exhausted and riding the high of the BookBub yesterday. ‘Early Sins’ is still in the top-500 on overall Amazon, top 10 in various Romance categories, and I’m thrilled to have so many people reading Camille’s backstory. Don’t forget though, Lethal Sin (Book 1) is on sale as well! <3 Let’s listen to this awesome song now…

Favorite Lyrics

Pull me in.
No, I cannot resist
every time your gravity
has a hold on me.
Shed your skin,
you’re just a counterfeit.
Dressing up an empty heart,
I know who you are.

So use your… So use your…

Blindfold!
Cover your hands on my
eyes, closed.
Do it again .
Tie me up and show me what’s real.
Hate your love, but love how you feel.
Useless,
trying to fight,
and the truth is
I’d rather be blind!

In the dark.
I need to taste the blood.
Go on draw another line,
we can cross this time.
Battle scars.
Your touch is not enough,
I need you to pierce my veins,
and become my pain.
