Okay, lovelies, today’s #MusicMonday is really good, and I have several reasons why. ‘I’ll Be Good’ by Jaymes Young was the first song I’d ever heard by him and I loved it from the first few lines. It was a stop-you-in-motion song and I fell in love with it instantly… and then I knew I wanted it to inspire a character. The only problem is that it’s a complicated song, with layers, and definitely meant for a dark anti-hero, which meant I needed to find the right voice for it. So, what does that mean? It has been on my writing playlist for YEARS, and the very exciting wonderful news is ……….. I finally have the character. One of my secret projects just finished (and was turned in) and it’s dark, and twisty, and wrong, and very very short, but I LOVE IT. I love it so hard, and I’ll be writing the full-length story for it in 2018. This character is so powerful that it’s also the first time I’ve ever written in first person POV. I can’t wait until I can tell you about this story, and share a snippet, but until then I just want you to read through these lyrics, listen to this voice, and imagine the damaged, fucked up anti-hero that it inspired. (The video is weird, so maybe just listen and read the lyrics, but I fucking love this song)

After the wonderful time with all of the authors from Blushing Books last week in Atlanta, I still can’t believe I’m lucky enough to write these books, and have readers, and friends in this crazy book world. You’re all wonderful, lovelies, and I’m so grateful to have you all in my life. Enjoy. <3

Favorite Lyrics

I thought I saw the devil,
this morning,
looking in the mirror, drop of rum on my tongue,
With the warning,
to help me see myself clearer.
I never meant to start a fire,
I never meant to make you bleed…
I’ll be a better man today.

I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
and I’ll love the world like I should.
Yeah, I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
for all of the times
that I never could.

My past has tasted bitter for years now,
so I wield an iron fist.
Grace is just weakness,
or so I’ve been told.
I’ve been cold, I’ve been merciless.
But the blood on my hands scares me to death,
maybe I’m waking up today.

I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
and I’ll love the world like I should.
I’ll be good, I’ll be good.
I’ll be good, I’ll be good.

For all of the light that I shut out,
for all of the innocent things that I doubt,
for all of the bruises I’ve caused, and the tears,
for all of the things that I’ve done all these years,
and all…
Yeah, for all of the sparks that I stomped out,
for all of the perfect things that I doubt.

I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
and I’ll love the world like I should.
Yeah, I’ll be good, I’ll be good,
for all of the times
I never could. Oh, oh-oh,
oh, oh, oh, oh-oh.
For all of the times I never could.
All of the times I never could.
