So, I discovered Former Vandal when he had a song on TV for something, and then I stumbled on the Wolves album and completely fell in love with pretty much every song. Two of them are particularly on my repeat lists all the time, ‘War’ and ‘War: Pt II’, and since I know I’d eventually put both songs on Music Monday, I decided to just compile them into one, so today is DOUBLE Music Monday. (P.S. The song ‘If The Money’s Good’ by the same guy was the Music Monday on 5/9). If you can’t tell, I love this guy, and these two songs back to back will rip your heart out with the lyrics, while also providing excellent music.
Enjoy, my lovelies!
Favorite lyrics for ‘War’:
I’m not sick but still so far away from sane. Nightmares, but I haven’t slept in ages. The battles won, but there’s still poison in our veins. We’ve lost control, anything but gently down the stream. Hold me close, hold me tell me life is but a dream. Save me, I think I’m losing my mind. You said you’d come for me when the world swallows me whole. Well, this is war.
…
Let the darkness come for me, let it try to steal my soul. As if I had a soul to steal. Hold me tell me life is but a dream. Save me, I think I’m losing my mind.
‘War’ by Former Vandal
aaaaaand, part two!
Favorite lyrics for ‘War: Pt II’:
Rest easy, fearless warrior You can sleep now, you can finally calm your bones Breathe easy, noble savior Only human, still more valiant than us all Nobody ever said that victory came without casualties. They say the good die young, but they never really tell you that they never die alone We all fall down. Bury a bit of our souls six feet underground. If you die, then we die with you.
…
Save me, I think we ran out of time You said you’d come for me when the world swallowed me whole Well the war is over And there are fallen soldiers
Hold me tell me life is but a dream. Hold me tell me life is but a dream I will always be waiting for you, love. I will always be waiting for you
Today’s Music Monday is brought to you by the lovely Lee Savino, a good friend of mine (and fantastic author). She is one of the people who checks my Music Monday every week and we have very similar tastes in music, so when she suggested Jarryd James’ ‘Do you Remember’ I totally agreed. I’ve loved this song since I first heard it, the video is better than I even thought it would be, and as she says… the lyrics are fantastic too!
Do you have a suggestion for Music Monday? Don’t be afraid to send it to me!
Awesome lyrics…
Oh, don’t be scared about it Don’t forget it was real Do you remember the way it made you feel? Do you remember the things it let you feel?
How do I make you stay, When it’s easier to let you go? Nobody knows what we know about it No one needs to know Call me when you’ve made up your mind but you won’t Caught up in a way that you played my heart Only love could ever hit this hard
I’ve got a hot song for you this week called ‘Honeythief’ by Halou. It’s slow, but has a wicked little beast and I love her voice. A quick update from me because this past week was very exciting! Tara (Daughters of Eltera Book 2) went live on Amazon, and Lethal Sin was featured on BookBub on Sunday! Lots of excitement, and I’ve been taking some downtime to catch up on my infinite to-be-read list. Luckily, I had quite a few amazing books sitting on my Kindle just waiting for me to give myself a break. (‘The Beast’ by J.R. Ward and ‘Born to be Bound’ by Addison Cain!)
Back to the song though, it’s just so sinfully sweet. Definitely some book inspiration hidden inside it. Here’s a cut from the lyrics: Sometimes I doubt the path I chose Sometimes my dreams feel all on hold There’s no doubt that this will make me strong Because it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done
Despite this cruel world And all my best efforts You surprise me with just how perfect you are
Even with all my flaws And my bad examples You surprise me with Just how perfect you are
For this week’s Music Monday I am so glad I found this song because if my latest release ‘Tara’ ever got to be a movie (or the Daughters of Eltera a TV series) I would want to play this song during the explosive scene at the climax of the book, maybe remixed with some heavy metal? For those of you that have read it already you know I mean the scene with Tara, all glowing bad-ass, in the hallway, in that scene – know what I mean? If you haven’t had the chance to grab it yet, it’s right over here!
I think once you read the lyrics below from Lights Fade Low’s song ‘Touch’ you’ll get what I mean:
No one will touch you No one will touch you I’d rip their heads off if they tried
No one will take you No one will break you I’ll keep you whole until I die
I can feel you inside underneath my skin Feel you take me from within And so I surrender bound to you in sin Feel my outsides turning in
No one will push you No one will push you I’ll push back hard with all my might
Holy shit, my day job is insane right now. INSANE. It means that I’m behind on editing ‘Tara’, my upcoming release which is the 2nd book in the Daughters of Eltera series. However, my lovely cover designer for this series has ALSO had an insane day job lately and so the cover isn’t ready for it anyway. Does that count as a valid excuse for me not having it done? It should. I spent Sunday evening doing day job work instead of author work, and that is sacrilege. SACRILEGE, I say.
Anyway, enough of my whining, I have super exciting news that I’m sending out to my mailing list this evening, and I’ll share it sometime this week to the rest of the social media sphere. For this Music Monday I have this fantastic song by an artist I had not heard before this song, it’s called ‘Use Me Up’ by Wanderhouse.
It starts out all sweet and unassuming, and then the beat picks up and check out these lyrics:
Blind lover Waiting for you Your silhouette is still moving Inside of our room
Red tide Swallowed the blue And my ship’s under water Waiting for you
You can use me up You know I’ll give you everything Love me any way you want Before you run away
Come and use me up You know I’ll give you everything Chew me up and spit me out I’ll love you anyway
I’m here ready when you’re ready I’m here say you won’t forget me I’m here ready when you’re ready I’m here
‘Use Me Up’ by Wanderhouse
Seriously, how can you not love this? I jam out to it every time it plays on Spotify. Remember to always come back on Mondays for more wicked little ear worms to get you through the work week! Thanks lovelies!
This week’s song ‘It Takes a Lot to Know a Man’ by Damien Rice, has been on my Music Monday to-do list for weeks and weeks, but I never had the right mood to actually post it up. This past week though I turned 30, celebrated Mother’s Day with family, and had an incredibly awesome party Saturday night with 14 of my more awesome friends in Uptown Dallas. There were make-out sessions, spontaneous singing, a LOT of drinking, and a stellar fun time making friends out of strangers.
Some of my favorite lyrics from this slow and lyric-driven piece of magnificence from Damien Rice?
It takes a lot to know a man It takes a lot to understand The warrior, the sage The little boy enraged
It takes a lot to know a woman A lot to understand what’s humming The honeybee, the sting The little girl with wings
It takes a lot to give, to ask for help To be yourself, to know and love what you live with It takes a lot to breathe, to touch, to feel
