This song is not one of those that grabbed me the first or second time I listened to it, but Spotify kept dropping it onto my ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist like some insistent nudge that I needed to pay attention to it. When I finally stopped long enough to listen to the lyrics I realized why, its definitely written for those of us that are so caught up in life that we sometimes lose sight of the people around us. I spend so much time trying to be so many things for so many people that sometimes I lose myself, and the two lines that just killed me with their accuracy were: “Baby life is better when you can’t remember, / everything you’re supposed to be.” Truer words were never spoken or sung. Then in the next verse she talks about staring into the rear view (hindsight is 20/20 afterall) and she just kind of rails on herself for a minute. I just really connect with the lyrics on so many levels and I hope you do too. The whole song has this very sedate quality to it, even with the upbeat instrumental behind it, but I think it’s one of those songs that will hit everyone with some truth in one way or another. Enjoy, lovelies.

I’ve been thinking ’bout you baby, ’bout you lately, about us. And I’ve been feeling kinda sad, and oh so very bad, They’re hanging in the dark.
Baby life is better when you can’t remember, everything you’re supposed to be. Maybe it’s forever, I’ll never remember, everything you meant to me.
Dum-da-da, dum-da-da, dum-da-da, dum-da-dum.
I’ve been glancing in the rear view, get a clear view staring into glass. I’m no sucker, I’m a motherfucker, I’m gonna grab my luck and take a chance.
Today’s #MusicMonday comes from The Moxy and it’s called ‘Save You’. This is one of those songs that stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it, and then I listened to it on repeat approx. 83872824 times over the next week. The lyrics are amazing, her voice is this haunting, desperate, beautiful thing that makes me imagine the whole scene. Just trying to save someone you love, and it inspires me to write. Write what? I have no idea, but the emotion in it is something I can’t get out of my head! Scroll down, hit play, and enjoy, lovelies. <3

I’m calling you off the ledge, toes hanging over the edge. If i were stronger, I’d pick you up. Hold on a little longer, it’d be enough to save you. Oh, to save you!
I wish I knew another way to save you. But I’ve tried so many ways to save you. I can only say I love you. I love you.
I’d banish away the storms, go back like it was before. I’d remove the clouds and turn the sky blue, but baby, I don’t know what else to do to save you.
There is just something about ‘Unconsolable’ from X Ambassadors that always has me dancing in my seat, and the lyrics are just so good because they can mean anything to anyone. It always makes me think of when I hit the dark places and even my best friends can’t pull me out because I’m just trapped with the demons and they’re the only ones I can hear. You just feel unconsolable, uncontrollable, in those moments, and I feel like the X Ambassadors capture that in a twisty, almost pop-style way. I love so many of their songs, but this is one I come back to over and over. Also, take a few minutes and really watch the video below. Their music video follows two boys taken into foster care, and separated when one runs off, and they find each other years later – both unconsolable, until they have each other. Surprise tear jerker, right? This band has so many layers. I love it. Enjoy, lovelies!

I hope we stay Thick as thieves Butter and bread Pillars on colonial homes And I wish I could shout you out False start

And you said you are Unconsolable And you said you are, are And you said you are, are Unconsolable, Uncontrollable
Come up to my house, drink with my friends. You can lay on my couch, aching to start all over again. Go on back to your room. Wait a minute, it’s my room. Was it something I said? Was it something I said?
Today’s song is Ivy & Gold’s ‘Eye of the Storm’ and it’s one of those that has that perfect beat and rhythm that always catches my ear and then gets stuck on repeat playing in my head. The lyrics feel so desperate, as if the woman singing them is in some terrible situation and needs to be saved, but has no idea how that’s going to happen. I think we all have “wolves” in our lives, and sometimes it’s just the evil demons inside our own heads that we wish someone could scare away, so they could wrap us up and keep us safe. Scroll down and hit play, there’s no video out for it yet but the song is on YouTube. I hope you enjoy, lovelies!

I wear you everywhere I go. It feels so close on my empty ghost. Can you scare away the wolves, scare away the wolves? (Wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me up in your love)
I wear you everywhere I go, can you find me in the undergrowth? I’ve been hiding from the wolves, it’s hard in these four walls. (Wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me up in your love) I wear you everywhere I go, familiarity wrapped in bones.
Just don’t let me fall! I want your skin on mine, that is all. (Wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me up in your love) And when I’m spiraling through a storm, you are the eye that keeps me from… giving up.
For Music Monday this week I have ‘Wolves’ by Down Like Silver. I love this song so much and it fits perfectly into every writing playlist I have. It’s just beautiful, with the underlying haunting tones of an organ, his low tones, and her sweet voice – but the entire song is about death. It’s like a love letter from someone dying, asking for their loved one to let them go and live – don’t mourn me, don’t sit in the darkness, daylight is waiting for you. *swoon* There have been times I’ve been pulled to a full stop listening to it because it tugs at my heart in all the right ways. I’m putting the full lyrics here because they’re too perfect, so go ahead and scroll down and hit play and listen/read along to this amazing song. Enjoy, lovelies. <3
Lyrics
When I die, let the wolves enjoy my bones.
When I die, let me go.
When I die, let the wolves enjoy my bones.
When I die, let me go.
When I die, you can push me out to sea. When I die, set me free. When I die, let the sharks come round to feed. When I die, set me free.
Oh the world is dark, and I’ve looked as far I can see. When the years have torn me apart, let me be.
When I die, let the flames devour me. When I die, set me free. When I die, throw my ashes to the breeze. When I die, scatter me.
Oh the world is dark, and I’ve looked as far as I can see. When the years have torn me apart… Let me be. Let me be. Let me be. Let me be.
Daylight is waiting for you. Daylight is waiting for you. (x4)
Why, hello there lovelies! We’re back for another Music Monday and this is a song that always makes me sit up and pay attention because I just love Laurel’s voice (and so many of her songs) but this one just makes me think of that line between the light and dark that I love so much. It alternates between bright lyrics, and violent ones, and I just love it. Definitely scroll down to hit play and check it out!

Into the hills, cry the tears of the crocodiles. Lost feet, on the road said I love you so I don’t have to be alone. Smoke fast, out the door love hard, but in the end we’ll kill them all. Sun’s coming up, too early my Valentine.

I feel it here on my skin like demons. Cry with joy cause I know Hell follows me. Out here in the Garden of Angels I feel what it was like to be free.
