This week I found a song that fit SO PERFECTLY with the book I’ve been writing (and the prequel I’ll release later this year) that I couldn’t resist putting it on Music Monday right away. Josef Salvat is an artist I’ve loved for years, but I apparently haven’t heard all of his music and when ‘Shoot and Run’ came on while I was working this week, I stopped still. The lyrics are so incredibly perfect for Camille, the feisty assassin from the book ‘Lethal Sin’ that I’ll be releasing FREE to everyone on my mailing list in April. Really, these lyrics give you an idea of how Camille got into the criminal underworld, and I can’t wait to share that story with you as well. Eventually.
Enough with my rambling, let’s get to the lyrics:
When she was young, they gave her a gun And said shoot and run It’s a job well done It’s a job well done If you speak its language It will do the rest A little too soon she put it to the test She put it to the test
…
Happy hunter, ripe fresh kill On to the next one, gotta chase the thrill You gotta chase the thrill If you wanna have fun you gotta shoot and run Leave it fleeted all behind, behind, behind, behind!
Oh, she doesn’t know much But she knows this Life’s too short not to take risks Oh, she steals herself and she doesn’t give a fuck She pulls the trigger and lives it up
On this week’s Music Monday I’m sharing a song that’s been repeating on my playlist as I’ve been working on ‘Lethal Sin’ (the upcoming book which will go out FREE to everyone on my newsletter!). It’s got those dark rhythms that always make my ears perk up, but I also love the clarity of her voice.
Just a reminder on what’s going on in my space: ‘Taken by the Enemy’ will be released by Blushing Books on March 26th, so set a reminder so you can grab it and then please leave a review so I can hear what you think (and others can find it too)! The US BookBub sale for ‘Security Binds Her’ (Thalia Book 1) will go live on March 31st, so if you haven’t read the book yet you can snag it for only 99 cents.
Okay, so there aren’t a lot of lyrics to this song, which usually bothers me, but this song makes it work. I just love it!
And I feel it running through my veins And I need that fire just to know that I’m awake Erased, I missed till the break of day And I need that fire just to know that I’m awake
It’s time for another Music Monday and this week’s ear worm for you is ‘Devil Devil’ by MILCK. As far as I can tell this is the first song released by the artist but both her voice and the lyrics are haunting and the moment I heard it I could not get enough of it. I’ll definitely be checking in to see what else comes out and I hope that the haunting song captures you as well. It’s been on a steady repeat for me alllll week!
Before I share some of my favorite lines I wanted to give an update that my book ‘Taken by the Enemy’ will be released by Blushing Books on March 26th! I can’t wait for you all to read this book and get a taste of the darker side of things again. It’s an adventure! I’m also still working on the free novella that I’ll be sending out to my entire mailing list, so if you haven’t signed up yet, make sure you do!
Now, back to the lyrics… these are fantastic.
Devil, devil clever devil devil How quickly they do sell their souls For the feast and the promise of gold But devil that won’t be me
Devil, devil Bones of metal metal You torture saints with a single glance Make them think they ever stood a chance
Today’s Music Monday was discovered NOT on my dark writing spotify playlist, but on a preview during The Walking Dead. It’s ‘We Carry On’ by The Phantoms. The second I heard this I couldn’t get it out of my head and I shazam’d the hell out of it and immediately started to listen to it over and over. This weekend was a perfect one to find a new song to zone out and write to because I spent the whole weekend with the amazing Livia Grant, Myra Danvers, and Sophie Kisker writing like mad. I actually put down almost 20k of my latest work-in-progress which will go out for FREE to everyone on my mailing list. Excited? I know I am.
These lyrics are absolutely beautiful and the way they sing them are even better:
This fire won’t go out though just a flicker it may be Shifting through the shadows to a vision we can’t see Hold fast to one another, we will stand stranger to brother
We are one, We carry on
This burden weighs so heavily When our demons we must carry Clinging to this fleeting breath Dying for a fighting chance
I’m in the middle of writing something new, dark, and delicious and it involves two characters who are attracted to each other even though all they really want to do (or should do) is hurt each other, and by ‘hurt’ I mean beat, stab, and shoot each other. As I was writing this song came on while I was in the middle of a very fun, intense scene and a few of the lines made me laugh because this would be a perfect soundtrack to these two.
Honestly though, anything from Meg Myers is usually damn perfect. This just happens to be the one that came on at the right moment, and the video is so fantastic. Curious about the book I’m talking about? I’ll be giving it away FREE to my newsletter subscribers (subscribe here) and trust me, it’s going to be good.
Favorite Lyrics
See, I gotta hunt you I gotta bring you to my hell Baby, I wanna fuck you, I wanna feel you in my bones Boy, I’m gonna love you I’m gonna tear into your soul
Desire… I’m hungry and I hope you feed me
…
Honey, I wanna break you I wanna throw you to the hounds, I gotta hurt you, I gotta hear from your mouth Boy, I wanna taste you, I wanna skin you with my tongue I’m gonna kill you, I’m gonna lay you in the ground
If you knew just how fierce these two were, you’d love this even more. Make sure to play it again once the book comes out! Enjoy!
This week’s Music Monday is by one of my favorite artists Lo-Fang that I’m so bummed more people don’t know about. His voice, and his lyrics, are spectacular, and this song in particular always gives me the shivers. Just the lyrics he uses are so powerful, and this one has some especially sexy undertones and dark themes that made it a must-have on my ‘Writing Dark’ playlist which I always turn on whenever I’m writing something particularly devious.
Here are some of my favorite lines:
Baby, come up to my office You played at my party I owe you some money You owe me your lips I’m gonna give tips I heard your boyfriend’s out of town
Baby, aren’t you hungry? I could give you codeine Or could get my car keys Oh, what a cute dress Right now it’s useless I heard your boyfriend’s out of town
