This is a song I’ve been waiting to toss up for Music Monday, it’s a cover of ‘House of the Rising Sun’ by Lauren O’Connell and it was used during the advertisements for American Horror Story: Coven. The video is absolutely wicked, and while I had expected scenes from the show – it’s not. It’s some cool behind the scenes stuff of her making the song, and then an eerie story that you just have to guess at the meaning of. Now, this is a song I’m sure many of you have heard before, but I love the way she slows it down and makes it even heavier than normal (and this is a heavy song). I just love it, and since I’m going to New Orleans with the Dom in a few weeks, it’s fitting!
Favorite lyrics…
There is a house in New Orleans They call The Rising Sun. It’s been the ruin of many a poor girl and God I know I’m one.
My mother was a tailor, she sewed my new blue jeans.
My sweetheart, he was a gamblin’ man, down in New Orleans
Oh, mother tell my baby sister not to do what I have done, but shun that house in New Orleans they call The Rising Sun.
This week’s Music Monday is ‘Wreak Havoc’ by Skylar Grey and it’s a special dedication to Camille because what else is she meant to do in life except wreak havoc on the world? ‘Early Sins’ is coming out soon and this prequel to ‘Lethal Sin’ follows her as she becomes the badass assassin she’s meant to be. So, when I heard this song from the Suicide Squad soundtrack I had to use it! Hope you love it as much as I do.
Favorite lyrics…
They call me a menace They say that I’m cursed But somethin’ about me is makin’ ’em jealous So listen and learn I herd ’em like cattle ‘Cause I’m surrounded by cowards And I don’t give a fuck when I walk into battle And thats why I got all the power I’m where you wanna be Ain’t no one ahead of me All of my enemies made a decision It’s better to follow me I make no apologies All of my sins I would repeat and I repeat ‘Cause I’mma be me ’til the death of me, oh yeah
I can smell your fear The only reason that I’m here Is to wreak havoc Everybody prayin’ that I’ll change, yeah Maybe one day but tomorrow I’ll be back at it ‘Cause bad habits they die hard We live fast we die hard Go against me you’ll die hard Die hard
I mentioned on Twitter last week that I couldn’t stop listening to Halsey, and this song ‘Gasoline’ has just completely wrapped me up in the lyrics. It’s a mix of Camille (from Early Sins, and a little of Lethal Sins) and also a good dose of me as a person, and just badass music and songwriting. I fucking love it and I hope it ends up on your repeat list this week, because it won’t be leaving mine any time soon! (Also, her entire album Badlands, is fantastic). Scroll down and enjoy, lovelies! I’m hoping to finish Early Sins THIS WEEK!
A few of my favorite lyrics (so hard to choose)…
Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me? Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me, just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me?
…
And all the people say, you can’t wake up, this is not a dream. You’re part of a machine, you are not a human being. With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline.
(Oh oh oh ) I think there’s a flaw in my code. (Oh oh oh) These voices won’t leave me alone. Well, my heart is gold, and my hands are cold.
Are you deranged like me? Are you strange like me? Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me? Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me? Pointing fingers cause you’ll never take the blame like me?
This week’s song is ‘The Hunted’ by Snow Ghosts and I’m absolutely in love with the heavy rhythms and the mysterious lyrics that never really tell us the story, but make you imagine one anyway. Or a hundred different stories. I mean, it’s just somehow such a sexy, intense song. Maybe its the slight growl to her beautiful voice, or the edge of tension the instrumental creates. Just trust me, it’s a shorter song, it’s simple lyrically – but it’s so fucking cool. Also, the video is BAD. ASS. Just trust me. Dark and vicious, I love it! Enjoy, lovelies!
Favorite lyrics…
You wandered through the willows In the forest you were found Trying to hide your footprints in the ground It’s not so wise, if you try to run It’s not so wise, you know I’ve won, you know I’ve won
And you’ll smile on your knees The hunter becomes… The hunter becomes… the hunted
This week I’ve got Lauren Aquilina’s ‘Forest Fires’ up and it’s weird because I first heard it on a Spotify playlist, but then I started hearing it on television and in movies! Apparently I’m not the only one who enjoys her hauntingly sweet voice and the surprisingly sad lyrics. While I’ve been listening to a lot more aggressive songs while writing ‘Early Sins’ (see ‘Sucker for Pain’ last week), this is like a cool bath in a dark room. I definitely like it! Scroll down and hit play to enjoy.
Favorite lyrics…
The people on this train Already made up their minds about me I can already feel their hate The stranger, his sorrow Must be fault of my own
And whilst I watch in silence You’re starting Forest Fires You start them just to feel the heat And whilst I keep my quiet You’re running with the tigers You’re running just to run from me
And I don’t blame you… And I don’t blame you… And I don’t blame you… Who would wanna be around me
Well, hello, lovelies! I have a song of a much different feel today, but after I saw Suicide Squad last week I ran to listen to the soundtrack and ‘Sucker for Pain’ totally surprised me with the sexy lyrics. Harley + The Joker’s relationship is one that is pure fiction insanity, where she is completely and utterly devoted to him. They share a twisted version of Dominant/submissive (without the safe + sane components of SSC). Check out the lyrics below and you’ll see why it spoke to me so much, and the video is AMAZING! Totally had a blast seeing this movie.
My favorite lyrics…
I torture you Take my hand through the flames I torture you I’m a slave to your games I’m just a sucker for pain I wanna chain you up I wanna tie you down I’m just a sucker for pain
I torture you Take my hand through the flames I torture you I’m just a sucker for pain
More pain Got me begging, begging, begging, begging, begging For more pain
‘Sucker for Pain’ by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons (with Logic, Ty Dolla $ign & X Ambassadors)
