Music Monday – Down on Your Knees

musicmonday

Ahhhh, music for a monday. Everyone who follows me knows that I have music playing when I write all the time, and the songs that show up again and again for me get added to my Music Monday playlist! This week I’m sharing ‘Down on Your Knees’ by flora cash. The song is sedate, but beautiful, and I love the meandering pace of the song. They never rush it, and it shifts between the male singer, the female singer, and combined vocals. All over the most simple drums and guitar, and that + the lyrics, makes it something I just adore. Hope you enjoy, lovelies!

Lyrics

Last I saw, you were down on your knees
praying for some release.
Check my bed, but you ain’t next to me
and I’m wondering where you ease.

Last until, anyone lets you know,
but I don’t understand this game.
Bit my lip, but I said I would find
something I didn’t know I had.

Almost winning… and now I don’t know,
but it seems like it’s almost away from me.
Maybe one day I’ll be strong enough to find
it out, and I’ll know it all…

And the spring is running fast.
You… got me thinking…
Oh, I want this to last.
You… got me thinking…

Almost winning… and now I don’t know,
but it seems like it’s almost away from me.
Maybe one day I’ll be strong enough to find
it out, and I’ll know it all…

Do you think it’s easy now?
Now, alone?
Baby is it easy now?
Now… alone?

Music Monday – Human

musicmonday

I have the coolest song for you lovelies today, it’s ‘Human’ by Sevdaliza and it was sent to me by one of my good reader friends over on Facebook. She said she got lost in a Youtube hole (haven’t we all done that?) and stumbled upon this. First, the song itself is just so sensual, and dark, and beautiful – but the video below is  incredible. I’m actually including almost all of the lyrics because they’re so simple, but also so poignant. I mean, the verse where she says “I am flesh, bones. I am skin, soul. I am human. Nothing more than human.” Ugh, it’s just – perfection. The fact that the video starts with the quote: “The basic human need to be watched was once satisfied by god” should give you an idea of just how powerful of a discussion of human existence this entire song is. How I had never heard of her before, I have no idea, but thank you very much, Diane, for sending it over. <3

Lyrics

Nothing…

I am. I have.
I breathe, in, and out.
I own a heart,
an ear, and an eye.
I’ve only been here one time.

It’s passing me by.
Been in and out,
and in front of my judgmental eyes.
My precious disguise.
Business so cold,
can’t cope with my own,
How to not fail?

I am flesh, bones.
I am skin, soul.
I am human.
Nothing more than human.
I am sweat, flaws.
I am veins, scars.
I am human.
Nothing more than human.

Music Monday – Sleep on the Floor

musicmonday

Today’s #MusicMonday came from a good real-world friend of mine who knows that I post favorite songs of mine every Monday. We share similar tastes in music and she sent me the brand new music video for The Lumineers’ Sleep on the Floor and when I heard how much she loved it I knew I needed to see it. This is one of those times where the video almost outshines the song, but honestly – how can you not love The Lumineers? They basically write novels with their songs, except a hell of a lot more concise than I ever could. It’s an almost 5 minute video, but the story it tells is worth it and it holds such a powerful message.

Are you missing your chance to live your life, lovelies?

Favorite Lyrics

Forget what Father Brennan said,
we were not born in sin.
Leave a note on your bed.
Let your mother know you’re safe,
and by the time she wakes
we’ll have driven through the state,
we’ll have driven through the night, baby come on.

If the sun don’t shine on me today,
and if the subways flood and bridges break,
will you lay yourself down and dig your grave,
or will you rail against your dying day?

Decide on me, yea decide on us.
Oh, oh, oh, Illinois, Illinois…

Pack yourself a toothbrush, dear.
Pack yourself a favorite blouse.
Take a withdrawal slip, take all of your savings out.
Cause if we don’t leave this town,
we might never make it out.

Music Monday – I Think We’re Alone Now

musicmonday

This week’s #MusicMonday is from a band that does some incredible covers, Hidden Citizens. For “I Think We’re Alone Now” they took a song made famous by 1980’s pop sensation Tiffany, and turned it into a wickedly dark and powerful song that completely transports you. I get visions listening to this song, and when it came on my Spotify playlist I completely agreed with their note saying this is the “Epic Trailer Version” of the song. This needs to be on a fucking movie trailer, or a book trailer (hint hint) because it just bleeds with ideas. When he screams “We’re alone!” towards the end of the song over and over, I hope you can imagine your own twisted little world with me, because I always do. Scroll down and hit play before you look at the lyrics, because they’re repetitive, but they just work like dark magic. Which, if we’re honest with ourselves, is absolutely the best kind.

Favorite Lyrics

I think we’re alone now,
I think we’re alone now,
I think we’re alone now,
there doesn’t seem to be anyone around.
I think we’re alone now,
the beating of our hearts is the only sound.

“Children, behave.”
That’s what they say when we’re together.
“Watch how you play.”
They don’t understand, that it’s over.

So we run just as fast as we can,
holding on to one another’s hands,
trying to get away into the night,
then you put your arms around me,
and we tumble to the ground, and you say…

I think we’re alone now,
there doesn’t seem to be anyone around.
I think we’re alone now
the beating of our hearts is the only sound.

I think we’re alone now (think we’re alone, think we’re alone now)
We’re alone!
We’re alone!
We’re alone!

Music Monday – The End of All Things

musicmonday

First things first on this #MusicMonday, I am a big Panic! At the Disco fan in general, but their music is so fun that I generally don’t listen to them when I’m writing because I’ll just end up bouncing around the room singing and dancing like a wild child. (Girls Girls Boys is an excellent example of that, but they have tons). But then they ended their ‘Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die’ album with this song and it just showcases not only Brendon Urie’s fantastic voice, but also the solid skill they have as a band. Just. So. Good. And you can’t beat the ultra simple lyrics which feel like a slow motion heartbreak to me. Enjoy, loves, and then cheer yourself up by playing a ton of their other music at high volume and get your dance on for me!

Favorite Lyrics

Whether near or far
I am always yours
Any change in time
We are young again
Lay us down
We’re in love [2x]
Aaaahhhh [4x]
In these coming years
Many things will change
But the way I feel
Will remain the same
Lay us down
We’re in love [2x]

Music Monday – Hunted

musicmonday

Today’s song is from AG + Silver and it’s called ‘Hunted’. I love the alternating style of music that switches from his sweet voice, with almost no background music, to a much more exciting, big song. It’s meant for a movie trailer, or a big scene in a show, just so moving and powerful. And who can pass up lyrics like “I’d give myself away / if it means that you’d be safe”? #swoonworthy It just makes me want to write something worth this soundtrack! Enjoy, lovelies, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Favorite lyrics…

One, by one, by one,
hear the beat of the drum.
I know the day the day will come,
the train will cease to run.
One, by one, by one.

We are the hunted now,
we are the hunted now.
Take it on the ground.
Safe, you’re safe,
cause we are the hunted now.

I’d give myself away,
if it meant that you’d be safe.
The enemy learned to trust.
This place is not for us.
I’d give myself away.

We are the hunted now, (all we are all we are)
We are the hunted now, (all we are all we are)
Take it on the ground.
Safe, you’re safe, (all we are all we are)
We are the hunted now.
