It’s #MusicMonday, lovelies, and we’re back from the hectic Easter weekend and I’m finally back to my normal grind of a day job. No more excitement until the end of the month when I get to run off to Atlanta and hang out with some of my favorite author friends at the Blushing Books event (preceding the Romantic Times RT convention). Check out my events tab if you’re curious about it, but I, unfortunately, can’t stay for RT. It’s expensive and I’ve never found it very helpful, or a very successful promotional opportunity for my brand of dark and dirty. ;p
I’ve been holding onto this song for a while, and I heard it when I was writing on the plane back from Vegas again and I just knew I had to use it today! iET starts off the song with this almost rap, the chaos of being overwhelmed by love, but then she suddenly shifts the song and she has this wonderful voice, rich and warm, and the lyrics take you on a meandering story that you can just FEEL. Trust me, you’re going to enjoy this one lovelies.
Scroll down, hit play on the song (no video for this one) and then enjoy the amazing lyrics!
Lyrics
All I know is when I chance a touch, and when you receive it, and love, twenty seconds in one hour’s enough to remind me that I need this warmth. All I know is that I can’t be alone. Anybody with two eyes, and that’s grown, that’s open to the air that you blow, keeps me company in this pink abode.
But I want you to be ignorant to the fact, that I’m like a heatwave, but I bet you felt that. And with all theses flames that could turn the sun black, I’m going against nature, holding this heat back. Spark lit, so addic–dicted,
Dis-play in my brain, doing it’s bit, with the heart restrained, all I can do is sit, with flooding eyes and drying ink.
When you enter the room, it’s unfair. Suddenly my mind gets clear – then goes blank. Struggling not to disappear or be bare. But then no pain exists when you’re there. Do I need to let love lead, even if it leads me to leave? And you’re not what I need, and you’re just an idea. and I can’t even see what you’re like for real. Both surprised, both release…
Oh, war… All I want to do is be around your air. And be myself, as naked as I can be with you. If you please, accept me for who I am. So I can – be free in my, love in my, trust in my feelings and myself, and my…
But love you, yeah, I love you. Oh, I love you. Oh, I never expected to be… me, again. And oh I’m so excited, to tell you that I want you but – but – but what?
But what? Really what? What is the problem? Love is love. Love is love. That’s all that matters, right? Love is love, love is love, love is love… (repeat)
‘Surge’ by Em Harriss is one of the #MusicMonday songs that goes back to my tradition of beautiful female vocals and powerful lyrics. It’s a tame song, calm and steady, but the lyrics just gut-punched me the first day I heard them and it’s been in my writing playlist ever since. I think that you’ll enjoy it if you pause for a minute, breathe, and listen. Maybe Em Harriss will give you a much needed mental break today. Personally, I’m loving today because we’ve got thunderstorms and back-to-back meetings, so I’m accomplishing a lot and getting to watch the rain. To me, that’s the perfect situation for this song. Enjoy!

Too much gray today. I have to take my heart away from you, I need a night to breathe. You didn’t bend my wings, you bit them off with your teeth, now I can only fly when I’m with you.
I am lost, I am found, could I be both under our common ground? I am lost, I am found, could I be both under our common ground?
Covered in fantasies… Who was I before he invaded my mind, made the voices leave quietly? Whenever he pulls me deeper into his dream, I can’t remember if I have control or does he? Beat me to it, I hope so, Beat me to it. Beat me to it, I hope so, Beat me to it.
I felt the surge today, almost forgot my name. Keep my mouth shut, keep my clothes unbuttoned. Should I stay on this train? I don’t know what to say, to the man who makes my love darker everyday.
. . .
He will love me like I loved him to begin with. I can feel it already, he’s breaking under me. We are lost, We are lust, We may have found someone to trust. We are lost, We are lust, We may have found someone to trust.
Today’s #MusicMonday is one that you have probably ALL HEARD and it’s the ‘Crazy in Love’ remix that Beyonce did the for the first 50 Shades of Grey movie. Now, whether or not you liked the books/movies, this song was fucking awesome from the moment it came out, and it’s lived on almost every writing playlist I’ve had since then. It’s just a wicked slow down remix with Beyonce’s awesome voice, and everything about it just screams sex. Which is exactly what you need buzzing in your ears sometimes when you’re writing dirty dirty things like I was this weekend. I hope you enjoy it, lovelies!

You got me looking, so crazy my baby I’m not myself lately I’m foolish, I don’t do this I’ve been playing myself, baby I don’t care Baby your love’s got the best of me Your love’s got the best of me Baby your love’s got the best of me
Baby you’re making a fool of me You got me sprung and I don’t care who sees Cause baby you got me, you got me, oh you got me, you got me
I look and stare so deep in your eyes I touch on you more and more every time When you leave I’m begging you not to go Call your name two or three times in a row Such a funny thing for me to try to explain How I’m feeling and my pride is the one to blame And I still don’t understand Just how your love could do what no one else can
It’s #MusicMonday and I had the great pleasure of spending Friday with my amazing and wonderful friend writing and hanging out and drinking wine and… basically lounging in a hotel room together and never leaving our yoga pants! It was fantastic, and in-between the writing one of our favorite things is to play songs for each other. We run through our current favorites and when I played ‘Straight Shooter’ by Skylar Grey she instantly shazam’d it and we ooh’d and aah’d together over the fantastic rhythm and the kick-ass lyrics. Of course, that meant I had to share it with all of you for Music Monday this week! ENJOY!
Lyrics
Married into this family, and I’m datin’ a bunch of outlaws. Even the children drawing guns out of little crayon box, playing with scissors, cuttin’ straight to the point, Don’t need to beat around the bush, we takin’ shots to the groin.
Take what I want, take what I need, and do it all with dignity. Say what I want, say what I need, and I don’t need you to agree.
I don’t spit before I fuck it, got a, got a hand on my pistol in my pocket. I don’t play nice, I’m not a shit-talker, I’m a straight shooter, now just give me the money, honey. Straight shooter now just give me the money, honey. Straight shooter now just give me the money… Got a hand on my pistol in my pocket, I’m a straight shooter, and just give me the money, honey.
I ain’t kissin’ no ass, but I’m makin’ out like a bandit. I’m brutally honest when I’m mouthin’ off, here’s a bandage They say I’m savvy for my age and savage as any devil, but at least I’m no imposter strapped in Jesus sandals.
…
Dear, all the beauty with the lonely frames. Who whispers every word you want to hear? Evil is either underneath our graves, and poison all the flowers in her hair…
Today I’ve got a great song from Ramsey called ‘Slave’, and it’s soft and seductive and has great lyrics. All the best to get back on track! Because… for the first time in months and months and months I missed a Music Monday last week, and I have to admit I’m disappointed with myself. Usually I am so much better at handling everything, but my edges are all frayed and uneven at the moment and I’m struggling to keep it all together. So, I’m sorry that I slacked off here, you guys are always so wonderful and supportive and this is the least I can do as we wait for me to finish the next books. <3 Hope you enjoy!
Lyrics
As I lay here, let me love you, on a bed that isn’t mine – I’m in the dark. I would always dream you’d come to rescue me, we’d run away before the monsters come to feed.
Love is painful nothing’s ever as it seems, there is evil in this room that must be pleased… If you trust me, I will give you what you need. I will show you what it means to be a slave. All the money we were paying just to breathe, I could really show you what it means to bleed.
If you love me you will have to set me free, I don’t wanna tell you all the things I’ve seen. I will stay here, live inside your wildest dream, in a world where our dreams are never free. I will love you, I’m your little angel, but I promise nothing here is ever as it seems…
As I lay here, let me love you, on a bed that isn’t mine – I’m in the dark.
If you trust me I will give you what you need. I’ll show you what it means to be a slave. You say you love me, but there’s so much you don’t see… I’ll show you what it really means to bleed.
As I lay here, forced to love you, on a bed that isn’t mine – I’m in the dark. I would always dream you’d come to rescue me, in a world where our dreams are never free.
This song, ‘Worst in Me’ by Unlike Pluto, was one that I fell in love with over the past week while listening to a YouTube station called ‘Trap Nation’ that my friend Myra Danvers loves as well. It’s just got the best rhythm, I love the lyrics, and the video is COOL. Honestly, I don’t know if this is their official video but it is awesome. Enjoy!
Lyrics
I saw you standing there and I knew, I’m done for, it’s over, I’m through. Playing games from the start. Sinking your nails in my heart.
You bring out the worst in me, You bring out the worst in me.
Looking back in my rearview. Nothing, no, nothing can change you. I decided to play when I knew you were fire. It started off warm but now I hear the choir.
Who do you think you are? Leaving your keys in my car.
You bring out the worst in me, You bring out the worst in me.
Oh, oh, oh, oh…
You bring out the worst in me, You bring out the worst in me. (x2)
