It’s #MusicMonday and I am excited to share this one because I am such a fan of “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, and when I heard this cover by Of Verona I immediately fell in love. They took the raw/grunge feel of the original, with the tweaks made by Johnny Cash’s cover in 2002, and made it sound sweet and beautiful without losing the dark edge to it. I’m actually a big fan of this band anyway, so I wasn’t surprised when they showed up on my Discover Weekly with Spotify, and I think it’s a great week to share it since I’m in the middle of lots of busy stuff at the day job and with the author job. I really hope you’ll take a few minutes to listen and enjoy, lovelies!

Lyrics

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel.
I focus on the pain,
the only thing that’s real
The needle tears a hole,
that old familiar sting.
Try to kill it all away,
but I remember everything.

What have I become?
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know,
goes away in the end.
You could have it all,
my empire of dirt.
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt.

I wear this crown of thorns,
upon my liar’s chair.
Full of broken thoughts,
way beyond repair.
Beneath the stains of time,
the feelings disappear.
You are someone else,
I am still right here.

What have I become?
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know,
goes away in the end.
And you could have it all,
my empire of dirt.
And I will let you down,
I will make you hurt.

If I could start again,
 a million miles away,
I would keep myself,
I would find a way.
